| I have no experiences trained on paper, but onto grass is pretty much easier, I am not sure you stay in apartment or link house. During training time, you have to really spent time supervise your pup, each time see any symptom he going to do his business just pick him up and put on the spot u want him to.. say grass/paper, and give a command say : 'hurry up' or 'poo poo' or 'do your business..' praise him after finish. By logic, after each meals within 10-15 mins, pup will need to do their business because they don hv complicated digestive system like human. So, watch your pup closely right after meals, right after sleep, and right after play. His sleeping area shouldn't be too big during training time, otherwise they will use one side for toilet and the other side for eating/sleeping. Partition his place so that it is only meant for sleeping/ eating, right after release out the crate/pen should always bring him to do his business first before carry on play with him. The 'toilet' shouldn't place too far as well, if you only want him to do at your garden make sure you bring him there during the first few weeks, instead expecting he can go all the way to the garden himself. If he make mistake, just shout " OUTSIDE" instead of "NO", because NO mean for = Can not, which is wrong info. to them, must let them know they can pee/poo but hv do it on proper place. Some people prefer to take their dog out for a walk to do their business, myself like to stand there still, right after they finish their business only carry on the walk, so that the walk is a reward to them, otherwise after they did it correctly then they hv to go home, they will drag the time longer outside each time during the walk.. I am not sure the commercial spray how effective, anyone here use before may be can add in some comments. Just don't forget praise your pup alots if he make it correctly. Happy training~ | |

| I bought my american cocker spanial 2 months ago...she is now 5 months old. according to some books and hint from other pet lover. most the puppy got short-term memories. the best time to do toilet toilet training for them is the first month > the 2nd months. after that it would be a bit hard. well it seens a bit late for my MIUMIU. already 3 months when the time i bought her. when the time i brought her back to my place ( condo i am staying now) she pee + poo every where. likes 3~5 poos and more than 6 pees a day....that really drive me crazy xD....lucky i am kinda soho n relaxing. my housemate got a iniactual szhnauzer(1 month older than mine) and kinda experience for that... i am following their method to my Miumiu. here u go no choice. slash their patpat is the key. they remember the pain. when the time they pee or poo. carry them infront of their "Business" n point to it n say "can not" or "outside"...n slash her patpat. for this is cruel but for the sake of future "Business" problem i suggest u be cruel for first 1~2 weeks. after slash them. bring them to the place where they should (i put newspaper on balcony n they do the business there now) beside. likes admin said. they got their time for "business" its about 30 mins for my miumiu after food. when they start sniffing around or "u should feel that they r gonna to" then bring them to the place where u want they do the "business" slowly they will know where they should do. if they did the business at the right place. praise them and give them snack. every time for my miumiu...when she pee or poo at the balcony. (the right place) she will come scratch my door and ask for snack well here is my 2 cens experience hope it would give a little help to u. p/s : i was like..Kanasai when i saw the pee or poo on the ground the starting....but now is ok....some time she still pee or poo on the ground... then need to "slash" again :3 .... | |

| Actually, I bought the pup for my mom and pap in ipoh, wherelse I am staying in KL myself. So I can only go back once in 2 weeks to check on the pup. Haahahaa....but my Cookie seems to be afraid of me bcos I always scold her whenever she poo inside the house. And as for my parents, they said dogs are to be loved, not to be beaten....hai.....and that really makes me mad!!! So I was wondering how can they train her to be good when they dont use any force? Well, my pap has a Labrador too and she is well-trained, I mean she only pee/poo when my pap brings her for a walk in the morning and evening. So I suggested that my pap does the same to Cookie, but Cookie is too afraid to go out, she only sniffs outside the gate and she will head back to the house. I wonder if she is too small for that Anyway, I think both suggestions are very useful, I will pass the tips to my mom and hopefully Cookie wont give too much trouble to them anymore. Thanks a lot!!! | |

| yeah, puppy might had short term memory...i don't think scolding n pat their backside can make them remember their misbehave... i don't think a blur blur puppy can understand y they got punish...
d best way is to guide them to d rite place... owner shld know d time whereby their dogs need to do it, ie. after waking up, after play time n after eating...n b4 going to nap... n for young puppies, owner can set a time frame, ie. every 3 hrs.
bring them 2 d respective places, no matter newspaper or grass....put them at d place n waiting until they do it...
if they had d habit of doing @ d same place for a few days or mayb weeks, they will learn to adapt to the routine....
n ofcoz b4 ur dog become reliable wit this, do not let them roam freely around d house unsupervise... prevent accidents frm happening is d best way to toilet train.... | |

| I think the best way to train is lock her in the toilet with newspaper for 2weeks is the best way, just lock her up and allow her out for food and play for 1 or 2hours only.don't look at her and feel pity on her.after a few weeks then she will know where to do her business.cos my mocha when i bought him back he also like that, pee poo everywhere and don want to listen.after i try this suggestion from my friend,it really work.try it,hope it help as well. | |

| thierrylye, how about u get some play pens fence up small portion cement but big portion with grass, see your cocker will do it on the cement or the grass.. then slowly increase the cement portion.. each time u release him out from the play pen guide him to the grass to pee n poo first, dont forget giv a command.. for a male dog they re marking so is common they do at your 'tiang', the best solution to solve this problem is neuter him. | |
